In Gazipur, garment workers lifted their 60-hour blockade on the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway after assurances of overdue wage payments. The blockade, which began with demands for unpaid wages, was ended on Monday night (November 11) by workers from TNZ Garments.
On Wednesday morning (November 13) around 8:30 AM, workers from the ‘Tara Tex’ factory in Gazipur City Corporation’s Gazipura area also blocked the highway, demanding unpaid wages. After about an hour and a half, they were assured of payment, prompting them to end the blockade and clear the road.
Similarly, at 10 AM in the Bagher Bazar area, workers from Lithy Group’s ‘Apparels-21 Limited’ factory blocked the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway over outstanding wages. Following nearly 45 minutes of disruption, they received a similar assurance of payment and subsequently lifted the blockade.
Assistant Superintendent of Gazipur Industrial Police, Mosharraf Hossain, explained that the workers were protesting over unpaid wages for October. Authorities intervened to clear the road and engage in discussions with factory owners regarding the wage disbursement. Additional Superintendent of Police Md. Faisal from the Industrial Police’s Sripur Camp confirmed that traffic is now back to normal.
Notably, just days earlier, TNZ Garments workers had staged a continuous 60-hour blockade over the same issue, which concluded late Monday night (November 11).
