The World Bank and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) have approved a combined budget support of $1.1 billion to expedite reform and development activities of the interim government. The approval includes two budget support loans of $500 million and $600 million, which are expected to be received by the end of December.
According to a press release from the Ministry of Finance, signed by Gazi Touhidul Islam, the budget support is accompanied by project assistance of $379 million for health and nutrition, and $280 million for improving the water supply system in Chattogram.
On December 19, the World Bank approved a $500 million budget support for Bangladesh under the "Second Bangladesh Green and Climate Resilient Development Credit" following successful implementation of green and climate-resilient development reforms.
Additionally, on December 18, a loan agreement of $600 million was signed between the Bangladesh government and ADB for the "Strengthening Economic Management and Governance Program, Sub-program 1." This program was developed by the Ministry of Finance.
