A massive traffic jam spanning 13 kilometers has brought movement to a standstill on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway, particularly in the Gazaria section of Munshiganj. The congestion, caused by a combination of a road accident and vehicle breakdowns, began early Monday morning and has left thousands of commuters facing significant delays and discomfort.
According to Highway Police, the situation unfolded around 7:00 AM in the Baushia area on the lane heading towards Cumilla. A road accident coupled with a vehicle malfunction triggered the initial slowdown. As time passed, the congestion expanded, stretching across a 13-kilometer segment of the highway within Gazaria.
Bus driver Kurban Ali, one of many caught in the traffic, shared his frustration, saying it took him an hour to travel the short distance from Jamaldi to Bhoberchar Bus Stand. “I have no idea how long it will take to reach my destination,” he lamented.
Meanwhile, Gazaria Bhoberchar Highway Police Outpost Officer-in-Charge Md. Humayun Kabir reported that efforts were underway to clear the highway by removing the damaged and broken-down vehicles. While vehicles are moving slowly, he expressed hope that normal traffic flow would resume soon.
The prolonged traffic jam has caused immense inconvenience to travelers, including those on long-distance routes. Authorities are continuing their work to address the situation and restore order on one of the country’s busiest highways.
