BNP Secretary General Sees New Momentum in Bangladesh-China Relations Following High-Level Visit to China

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has expressed optimism that the recent understanding between the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and the Communist Party of China (CPC) will take bilateral strategic relations between the two countries to a new height. He made the remarks on Friday while speaking to journalists at the Xi’an International Airport in China before returning to Dhaka.

The statement comes at the conclusion of the BNP delegation’s official visit to China, which took place at the invitation of the CPC. The delegation toured key locations in Shaanxi province, aimed at observing governance models and strengthening inter-party cooperation.

Earlier in the day, the BNP delegation visited a model community in the suburban area of Xi’an, the capital city of Shaanxi province. The community committee’s secretary received the delegation and offered a comprehensive overview of their operations. The delegation was briefed on how the community supports its residents with healthcare services, volunteer programs, education, and rehabilitation support for people with disabilities.

The visit also included a tour of a museum affiliated with the community, which showcases China’s revolutionary and independence history to children and young citizens through interactive exhibits. According to the BNP officials, the experience offered insight into how China integrates history, education, and civic responsibility at the grassroots level.

As part of the farewell, senior officials of the CPC's International Department formally saw off the BNP team at the Xi’an airport. The CPC delegation included the department’s Director-General and other high-ranking officials, who expressed appreciation for the visit and the ongoing efforts to enhance cooperation between the two political parties.

Speaking to the press before departure, Mirza Fakhrul said, “This visit, made at the invitation of the Communist Party of China, has laid the foundation for a renewed understanding between BNP and CPC. This mutual understanding will help deepen the strategic partnership between Bangladesh and China in a meaningful way.”

He emphasized that the engagement between the two parties extends beyond diplomacy and serves as a framework for future cooperation on matters of political development, governance, and socio-economic progress. “We witnessed how China is working at the community level to uplift lives through strong organizational structures, which offers lessons for us,” he added.

The BNP delegation is scheduled to land at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 9:40 PM local time on Friday night, marking the end of the high-profile visit that analysts say could signal a fresh chapter in BNP’s foreign relations strategy.

The visit comes at a time when Bangladesh continues to expand its strategic partnerships in the region, and political parties seek to broaden their global engagements. The BNP’s outreach to the CPC is seen as part of a broader move to build international alliances and learn from different governance experiences around the world.
