A total of 145 Bangladeshi migrants stranded in Libya have been repatriated from Benghazi. They arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka today, Thursday, at 5:30 AM on a Burak Air chartered flight.

According to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, most of these migrants entered Libya illegally, with the intention of traveling to Europe via sea, often influenced and assisted by human traffickers.

Many of the returnees had been subjected to abduction and torture at different times while in Libya. Upon their return, officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged them to raise awareness about the risks associated with illegal migration and to discourage others from attempting such perilous journeys.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has provided each of the returnees with financial assistance amounting to six thousand Bangladeshi Taka, along with food supplies, medical care, and temporary shelter if necessary.

The press release further mentioned that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in collaboration with the Bangladesh Embassy in Tripoli and the International Organization for Migration, continues its efforts to ensure the safe repatriation of Bangladeshi nationals detained in various detention centers across Libya.
