The demand for holding local government elections before the national polls is a politically motivated ploy by certain parties, remarked Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Senior Joint Secretary General of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).

Speaking on Sunday morning after paying tribute to BNP founder Ziaur Rahman’s grave along with party leaders and activists from various districts, Rizvi accused the government of scheming to manipulate the electoral process.

Rizvi alleged that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is strategically plotting a dangerous plan, which must be countered by holding national elections at the earliest opportunity to thwart such conspiracies. He emphasized that the nation is eagerly waiting for a free, fair, and impartial election, asserting that the Yunus-led administration is deliberately stalling the process.

The BNP leader further stated that the government must be given a final deadline to restore democracy through fair elections, emphasizing that many lives have been sacrificed for democracy in Bangladesh. Before such elections take place, he urged that the necessary reforms be swiftly completed to ensure a transparent and accountable electoral process.
