Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, the Secretary-General of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), has expressed his party's expectation that the Indian government will immediately extradite Bangladesh's Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina, in light of a recent report by the United Nations Human Rights Commission. The report has labeled Hasina as a "fascist" and stated that she is directly responsible for a series of killings and human rights violations.

Speaking at a press briefing on Thursday, February 13, at BNP Chairperson's office in Gulshan, Fakhrul shared his reaction to the UN's observer committee's report. He thanked the committee for its accurate findings, asserting that it was under Hasina’s direction that all the killings took place, including the genocide, and other human rights violations were carried out. According to Fakhrul, the report confirms that the destruction of democracy, the collapse of state institutions, and the widespread human rights abuses were all ordered by the Prime Minister herself.

Fakhrul went on to emphasize that Sheikh Hasina has been proven to be a fascist who has oppressed, tortured, and killed the people of Bangladesh. He urged the Indian government to immediately hand her over to the Bangladesh government so she could face trial for her actions, alongside her accomplices.

The BNP Secretary-General expressed relief upon hearing about the publication of the UN report, which, according to him, confirmed the truth about the events that had unfolded. Fakhrul noted that while the international community generally believes in the reports from organizations like the United Nations, political parties in Bangladesh are often not given the same credence. Nonetheless, he reiterated his gratitude to the UN's observer team for uncovering these facts.

The report by the UN’s Human Rights Office investigates human rights violations that occurred in Bangladesh between July 1 and August 15, 2024, amidst a student and public movement. On Wednesday, the Human Rights Commissioner, Volker Turk, along with other officials, presented details of the report in Geneva.

Earlier on Thursday, at 11 AM, James Goldman, the Acting High Commissioner of the United Kingdom, arrived at BNP Chairperson's office in Gulshan, Bangladesh, in a flagged vehicle. After an hour-long meeting, he left the office, with Fakhrul and Shama Obaid, the BNP’s Organizational Secretary, present at the meeting.
