Holy Shab-e-Barat to be Observed on Friday

Muslims worldwide observe the night of the 14th of Sha’ban in the Hijri calendar as Shab-e-Barat, also known as the Night of Fortune. This night is also referred to as ‘Lailatul Barat.’

On this occasion, Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus has issued a message. He extended heartfelt greetings to Muslims in Bangladesh and around the world, emphasizing the spiritual significance of this night. Saturday (February 15) has been declared a public holiday in observance of the event.

In his message, the Chief Advisor stated that this blessed night brings immense mercy and blessings from Almighty Allah. He highlighted that this night is a time for divine forgiveness and answered prayers.

He further mentioned that the infinite grace and blessings of Allah descend on this sacred night. Through acts of worship and devotion, believers can seek nearness to Allah and attain His boundless mercy, blessings, salvation, and forgiveness.

He urged everyone to use this opportunity for self-purification and social welfare. He called upon people to abandon injustice, immorality, and superstitions and to uphold the true spirit of Islam in personal, social, and national life.

Throughout the night, special prayers, recitations from the Holy Quran, and religious sermons will take place in mosques across the country.

The Islamic Foundation has also issued a statement regarding the observance of Shab-e-Barat. According to the statement, the foundation has organized various religious programs, including Quran recitations, prayer gatherings, and discussions, at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque.

The programs will begin on Friday at 6:35 PM with a special sermon on the teachings of Lailatul Barat from the Holy Quran and Hadith by Dr. A. F. M. Khalid Hossain, Advisor to the Ministry of Religious Affairs.

At 7:10 PM, Islamic Foundation Director General A. Salam Khan will deliver a lecture on the significance and virtues of Lailatul Barat. Later, at 8:50 PM, Dr. Khalilur Rahman Madani, a member of the Board of Governors of the Islamic Foundation and Acting Principal of Tamirul Millat Kamil Madrasa, will discuss the importance of the night.

At 9:30 PM, Syed Mohammad Mosaddek Billah Al Madani, a Board Governor of the Islamic Foundation and Principal of Char Monai Ahsanabad Rashidia Kamil Madrasa, will deliver a speech on the teachings and lessons of Lailatul Barat in light of the Quran and Hadith.

Later, at 2:15 AM, a sermon on the significance of voluntary prayers will be delivered by Senior Imam of the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, Hafiz Maulana Mufti Mizanur Rahman. The final prayer session will be held at 5:50 AM, led by Imam Hafiz Maulana Mufti Muhibullahil Baki.

Bangladesh Television, Bangladesh Betar, as well as private TV channels and radio stations, will broadcast special religious programs to mark the occasion.

On this sacred night, devout Muslims will engage in acts of worship, including voluntary prayers, Quran recitations, supplications, and religious gatherings. They will seek divine mercy and blessings, praying for the well-being, peace, and prosperity of the Muslim community worldwide.

Special prayers will also be offered for the welfare and prosperity of the Muslim Ummah.
