The Islamic Movement Bangladesh has issued a stern warning against creating uncertainty over the upcoming elections, emphasizing the importance of holding polls without delay. Secretary General Maulana Yunus Ahmed delivered this message during a review meeting held at the party’s central office on Wednesday (March 5) to discuss programs for the holy month of Ramadan.

Yunus Ahmed stated, "There is no question about the necessity of reforms to ensure a sustainable and fair political framework. The core demand of the 2024 blood-stained movement was reform. At the same time, the trial of the fallen autocracy has become a matter of repaying the debt of thousands of lives lost."

He further added, "The trial of the autocrats must happen. However, it is unacceptable to prolong the interim period without elections under the pretext of reform and justice. It is unimaginable for a sovereign country to go over a decade without an elected government. Therefore, no uncertainty should be created regarding the elections, even after the fall of the autocracy."

The meeting was attended by prominent party leaders, including Joint Secretary General Maulana Ghazi Ataur Rahman, Engineer Ashraful Alam, Maulana Muhammad Imtiaz Alam, Assistant Secretary General Maulana Ahmad Abdul Qayyum, Maulana Lokman Hossain Zafri, Hafez Maulana Sheikh Fazlul Karim Maruf, and Maulana ABM Zakaria.

Yunus Ahmed emphasized, "Reforms, the trial of autocrats, and free, fair elections are equally important. We are committed to implementing all of these. Under no circumstances should uncertainty be created around the elections, as it will raise questions about the interim government’s sincerity."

The Islamic Movement’s leadership reiterated its commitment to ensuring a democratic process while addressing the need for justice and systemic reforms, urging all stakeholders to avoid actions that could undermine public confidence in the electoral process.
