Mirza Abbas, a member of the BNP’s Standing Committee, criticized the government for failing to dismantle the syndicate that he claims continues to manipulate essential goods prices despite the change in leadership. Speaking at the inauguration of the Dhaka South Metropolitan BNP's member renewal program at the party's central office in Nayapaltan on Friday (February 14), Abbas pointed out the rising prices of daily necessities, particularly during the Ramadan season, and the ongoing economic difficulties faced by the common people.

He alleged that the government had failed to address the real culprits behind the price hikes and ongoing violence, particularly those responsible for firing at students and the general public. "The government is not taking any action against those who, under their influence, have caused harm to students and the people. Instead, the authorities seem focused on targeting a specific political party due to their ties," he stated.

In terms of upcoming elections, Abbas expressed BNP's readiness to contest under an interim government as per the agreed timeframe. However, he also mentioned the confusion being spread by other political parties, aiming to cause disarray around the election process. “While we are prepared for the election, the government is distracting the people with contradictory statements from various parties,” Abbas commented.

Regarding party renewal and integrity, Abbas urged caution and awareness in the process, emphasizing that individuals involved in fascism or corruption should not be allowed to become members of the party. He pointed out that the party does not need thousands of members; a smaller number of dedicated and loyal members would suffice.

Abbas also highlighted the issue of political figures from other parties involved in financial misconduct, such as loan defaults, and how BNP has often been wrongfully blamed for the shortcomings of others. He remarked that the party should no longer tolerate such accusations and continue to focus on its own credibility.

Finally, he called upon all political parties to move away from conspiratorial tactics and work toward ensuring free and fair elections in the country. Abbas urged cooperation with the interim government for the benefit of the nation’s democratic process.
