BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has expressed optimism that the national elections will be held soon after minimal reforms. He stated, "We have made it very clear that national elections must come first, followed by local government elections."
On Saturday (February 15) at 3 PM, a meeting of the National Consensus Commission was held with representatives from 26 political parties and alliances. Following the meeting, Mirza Fakhrul spoke to journalists.
He said, "We hope that a minimal consensus on reforms will be reached quickly. Our expectation is that, based on this consensus, national elections will be held as soon as possible."
Mirza Fakhrul further stated that the Chief Adviser conducted the first meeting of the National Consensus Commission with political parties. During this meeting, he discussed the necessity of reforms and urged the parties to deliberate on the reports submitted by various commissions. The parties will engage with the commissions on these matters, striving to reach a consensus. That is the main objective. Today’s discussions were preliminary, and various political parties expressed different viewpoints.
He also mentioned that the first meeting was essentially introductory, where different political parties presented their opinions. However, no concrete or constructive discussions have taken place yet.
