Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, a member of the BNP's National Standing Committee, stated that the legal proceedings against Sheikh Hasina have no connection to elections or government change. He emphasized that the judicial process is independent and should not be used as an excuse to delay democratic processes.

Speaking to journalists after attending a seminar at a Dhaka hotel on Wednesday (March 5), Khosru asserted, "The judicial process is a legal matter, and it will continue. Elections cannot be postponed for one reason today, another tomorrow, or another the day after. There is no opportunity to delay the electoral system or democratic processes with such rhetoric."

Khosru further criticized attempts to use legal proceedings as a justification for delaying elections, stating, "We have been oppressed, tortured, and sacrificed for 16 years. The 16 crore people of Bangladesh have ousted the autocrat Sheikh Hasina through movements. The goal was to establish a democratic environment in Bangladesh, where people can freely express their opinions, form political parties, and present their views to the public."

His remarks came in response to comments made by Sarjis Alam, an organizer of the newly formed National Citizens' Party, who on Tuesday urged that no individual or political party should even mention elections until Sheikh Hasina and the Awami League face trial.

Khosru's statements highlight the ongoing political tension in Bangladesh, with opposition leaders advocating for democratic processes to proceed without interference from legal or political maneuvering.
