Aminul Haque, the central sports secretary of BNP and the convener of Dhaka North City BNP, stated that BNP's acting chairman, Tarek Rahman, is placing significant emphasis on sports to engage and empower the youth and younger generations. Speaking at the inauguration of the Zia Inter-Thana Football Tournament-2025 between Shah Ali Thana and Rampura Thana, organized by the Dhaka North City BNP at Mirpur Government Bangla College Ground on Friday (February 14), Haque emphasized the party's dedication to promoting sports at all levels.
Haque mentioned that under Tarek Rahman's guidance, sports like football and cricket are being spread across divisions, metropolitan areas, districts, and up to the rural areas. He highlighted how this initiative is helping divert the youth's attention from drugs to sports and other positive activities. "In a Bangladesh free from autocracy, we are extending sports programs across the country, and as a result, the youth are shifting their focus from drug abuse to sports," he noted.
He also criticized the ruling Awami League for keeping the youth away from sports during their 17 years of governance. Haque accused the government of being more focused on maintaining power through authoritarian means rather than fostering the well-being of the youth.
In his speech, Haque pointed out that, following Tarek Rahman's direction, BNP has been organizing various sports tournaments such as the Arafat Rahman Koko Football/Cricket Tournament and the Zia Inter-Thana Football Tournament. He mentioned that these initiatives aim to keep the youth away from drugs while also contributing to creating a healthier society and nation.
Additionally, Aminul Haque emphasized the importance of maintaining integrity within the party. He called for ensuring that people involved in corruption or fascist tendencies should not be allowed to join the party. He highlighted that the party does not need a large number of members, but rather, a few dedicated and disciplined individuals who can genuinely contribute to its cause.
The event was attended by several notable members of the Dhaka North City BNP, including Secretary of Dhaka North City BNP, Md. Mustafa Jaman, Joint Convener Mostafizur Rahman Segun, Ferdousi Ahmed Mishti, ABMA Rajjak, Gazi Rezaunul Hossain Riaz, Ataur Rahman, Haji Md. Yusuf, Afaz Uddin, Mahabub Alam Montu, and other local leaders from various BNP units.
Earlier in the day, Aminul Haque attended the general meeting of the Pallabi Polashnagar House Owners Association and participated in the funeral prayer of BNP leader Abul Hashem in Adabor
