Since January 1, 2024, over 111,000 dengue cases reported with 575 deaths, marking a decline from 2023

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has reported two additional deaths from dengue and 326 new hospital admissions across Bangladesh in the last 24 hours. The highest number of new cases, 118, were recorded in the Barisal division, according to a press release issued on Wednesday (June 25) from the Health Emergency Operation Center and Control Room.

Breaking down the latest admissions by region, Barisal tops the list with 118 new patients, followed by Chattogram and Dhaka division (outside city corporations) with 43 each. Meanwhile, Dhaka South City Corporation admitted 45 patients, Dhaka North City Corporation 26, Rajshahi 29, Khulna 16, Mymensingh 5, and Sylhet 1. Over the past day, 319 dengue patients were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recoveries this year to 7,749.

Since the start of 2024, a total of 8,870 people have been infected with dengue, resulting in 36 deaths to date.

Looking at the broader picture for the year, from January 1 to December 31, 2024, Bangladesh has reported 111,214 dengue cases with 575 fatalities. This marks a significant improvement compared to the previous year, 2023, when 1,705 people died from dengue. In 2023, hospital admissions due to dengue were much higher, totaling 321,179.

Health authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, urging the public to maintain preventive measures against mosquito breeding and to seek immediate medical attention if symptoms appear. The government’s ongoing efforts include awareness campaigns and vector control initiatives aimed at curbing the spread of dengue across the country.

With summer progressing and monsoon season underway, officials emphasize the critical need for community cooperation to prevent further outbreaks and reduce the dengue burden on the healthcare system.
