The government has directed all educational institutions to prohibit student participation in rallies and assemblies that are not related to academic activities. This decision, announced in a circular issued by the Ministry of Education on Tuesday, April 29, aims to curb the growing unrest and disruption in schools and colleges caused by non-educational protests.

According to the circular, students from schools and colleges in Dhaka and other parts of the country have recently been joining rallies and gatherings that have no connection to their academic curriculum. These activities, the Ministry stated, have led to significant interruptions in the learning environment, causing both physical and mental distress among students.

The Ministry expressed concern that these unregulated activities are affecting students’ focus and triggering anxiety among parents and guardians. Authorities fear that the participation of young learners in such events may have long-term negative consequences on their academic progress and overall well-being.

In response, the Ministry has emphasized the need to engage students in more classroom-based and educationally relevant activities. Institutions have been advised to keep students actively involved in their academic work and to enrich their experience through structured co-curricular programs.

To support this initiative, the circular includes a sample list of recommended co-curricular activities that schools and colleges can implement. These activities are intended to provide positive outlets for students’ energy and creativity while maintaining an academically focused atmosphere.

The directive also urges school authorities to collaborate closely with parents and guardians. By fostering a supportive relationship with families, institutions can ensure better student engagement in both academic and co-curricular domains. The Ministry calls on all heads of educational institutions to take immediate and effective steps in this regard.
