Mushfiqur Rahim, one of Bangladesh's most dependable batsmen, has officially announced his retirement from One Day International (ODI) cricket. The decision comes after a challenging recent period, including a disappointing performance in the ICC Champions Trophy, where he scored 0 and 2 runs in two matches. Despite the struggles, Mushfiqur leaves behind a remarkable legacy, having played 274 ODIs, scoring 7,795 runs with 9 centuries and 49 half-centuries at an average of 36.42.
In an emotional post on his verified Facebook page, Mushfiqur expressed his gratitude, saying, "I am retiring from ODI cricket today. Alhamdulillah, I am grateful for everything. Our achievements in world cricket may not be vast, but I can proudly say that I gave more than 100% whenever I stepped onto the field wearing the national jersey. I played with honesty and dedication."
The former Tigers' captain also acknowledged the difficulties he faced recently, stating that his decision to step away from ODIs was made after careful consideration. He quoted a verse from the Quran, emphasizing humility and acceptance of life's challenges.
While his ODI journey ends, Mushfiqur will continue to contribute to Bangladesh cricket in Test and T20 formats. Fans now eagerly await his next steps, as the cricketing legend transitions into a new phase of his career.
