Bangladesh Bank has reported that expatriates sent a total of $2.27 billion in remittances during the first 26 days of April. Additionally, in March, coinciding with Ramadan and Eid celebrations, a record $3.29 billion in remittances was received by the country.

According to the latest Bangladesh Bank report, of the total remittance received so far in April, $853.8 million came through state-owned banks, $119.4 million through specialized banks, $1.29 billion through private commercial banks, and $427 million through foreign banks operating in Bangladesh. This steady inflow of remittances has played a significant role in maintaining the country’s foreign currency reserves, which currently stand close to $27 billion. This level is being considered a crucial buffer for ensuring Bangladesh’s financial stability.

In the first nine months of the current fiscal year (2024–25), Bangladesh has received a total of $21.77 billion in remittances. This figure is notably higher compared to the $17.07 billion received during the same period of the previous fiscal year (2023–24), reflecting strong growth in remittance inflow.

These trends suggest that remittances continue to serve as a major driving force behind the rise in Bangladesh’s foreign exchange reserves. Looking at earlier months of 2025, the remittance flow has remained relatively steady. In March, Bangladesh received $3.29 billion; in February, $2.53 billion; and in January, $2.19 billion in remittance inflow.

Similarly, earlier months also witnessed significant remittance figures: $2.64 billion in December, $2.20 billion in November, and $2.39 billion in October. These consistent inflows have helped to cushion the country's foreign reserves at a time of global economic uncertainty.

Experts and stakeholders believe that the dynamic trend of remittance inflow remains vital for keeping Bangladesh’s economy active and resilient. They view the ongoing robust performance of the expatriate workforce as a key element for economic sustenance, particularly in maintaining a healthy balance of payments and meeting the import payment obligations.

Previously, the highest monthly remittance inflow in Bangladesh’s history was recorded in December, reaching approximately $2.64 billion. The second-highest was in February, with nearly $2.53 billion. In January, remittance inflow totaled approximately $2.185 billion.

These consistent records highlight the critical importance of remittance in supporting Bangladesh’s macroeconomic stability and indicate the significant contributions of migrant workers to the nation’s economy.
