Bangladesh's women's football team made history last October when they defeated Nepal in the final of the SAFF Championship, securing their second South Asian title. As a recognition of their outstanding achievement, the team has been nominated for the prestigious Ekushey Padak.

The award ceremony will take place tomorrow at 11 AM at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka, where interim government Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus will present the awards to the winners.

Initially, there was some confusion regarding the number of award recipients. The Ministry of Culture had invited only the 11 players who played in the final match. However, the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) later requested the ministry to extend the invitation to all 32 members of the squad. After deliberation, the ministry decided to send invitations to 23 footballers and nine coaches and officials.

Additionally, seven invitation cards have been sent to BFF officials. Although the entire team has been invited to attend the event, only team captain Sabina Khatun and vice-captain Maria Manda will take the stage to receive the award on behalf of the team.
