For the past two days, the country has been experiencing severe cold due to dense fog combined with chilly northern winds. The cold wave is expected to last for another 3-4 days, accompanied by thick fog. According to forecasts, light rainfall is anticipated in various parts of the country around January 6-7.

Meteorologist Bazlur Rashid from the Bangladesh Meteorological Department has indicated that temperatures could rise slightly after the rain. From December 30 to January 2, temperatures across the country dropped by 10 to 12 degrees Celsius. On the morning of January 3, the lowest temperature recorded was 8.3°C in Tetulia, Panchagarh, while Dhaka recorded a minimum temperature of 13.6°C.

The northern regions of Rangpur and Rajshahi have been experiencing the most intense cold. The weather forecast predicts a slight increase in nighttime temperatures in the western regions of the country, while daytime temperatures may rise by 1 to 3 degrees Celsius. However, temperatures in other areas are expected to remain mostly unchanged.

The weather department also stated that there could be two to three more cold waves in January. Due to the cold wave, medium to dense fog may persist across the country from midnight to morning, with some areas potentially experiencing fog until noon. Dense fog could disrupt air, inland waterway, and road transport temporarily.

Jitendranath Ray, an assistant officer at the local weather monitoring center in Panchagarh, explained that the cold winds from the Himalayas are sweeping across the northern regions due to clear skies. He further mentioned that the weather in these areas is expected to remain the same for the coming days.
