Washington, USA – Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, currently on an official visit to the United States, discussed the recent situation in Bangladesh with U.S. President Donald Trump. This information was disclosed by India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri during a press briefing in Washington.
On Thursday, the White House hosted the meeting between Trump and Modi, where they deliberated on various bilateral, regional, and global issues.
Responding to a journalist’s query, Foreign Secretary Misri confirmed that Bangladesh was among the topics discussed. He noted that Prime Minister Modi shared his perspective, expressed concerns over recent developments in Bangladesh, and elaborated on India’s viewpoint regarding the situation. According to a report by Deutsche Welle, Modi conveyed India’s expectations concerning Bangladesh to President Trump.
Misri further stated that India hopes the situation in Bangladesh evolves positively, ensuring a constructive and stable relationship between the two neighboring countries. However, he acknowledged existing concerns and reiterated that Modi brought these issues to Trump’s attention.
Following the Trump-Modi meeting, a joint press conference was held, where Bangladesh-related questions were raised. An Indian journalist asked President Trump about his stance on Bangladesh, specifically in light of allegations that the U.S. deep state had a role in government changes in Bangladesh during the Biden administration.
In response, Trump denied any involvement of the U.S. deep state in Bangladesh’s affairs. He stated that the issue had been a longstanding matter that Prime Minister Modi had been working on for an extended period. He further remarked that such concerns had persisted for centuries but ultimately left the issue to Modi’s discretion. However, Modi did not provide further clarification on the matter during the press conference.
