The funeral prayer of former Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. A A M S Arefin Siddique will be held today, Friday, after the Jumma prayer at the Dhanmondi Eidgah ground. Following the funeral, he will be laid to rest at Azimpur Cemetery beside his parents' graves. His younger brother, Saifullah Siddique, confirmed the information.
According to family sources, Arefin Siddique passed away on Thursday night while undergoing treatment at the hospital. He had been on life support for several days before his demise.
Earlier, on March 6, he suddenly collapsed while speaking at Dhaka Club in Ramna. He was immediately taken to the hospital, where medical examinations revealed that he had suffered a stroke and sustained a head injury.
Professor Arefin Siddique was a former chairman of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism at Dhaka University. In 2009, he was appointed as the 27th Vice-Chancellor of the university. After completing his tenure as Vice-Chancellor in 2017, he returned to the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism as a professor. He retired from university teaching in June 2020.
