Leaders Discuss Strengthening Bilateral Ties, Trade, Investment, and Educational Cooperation

Kosovo’s Ambassador, Lulzim Plana, held his first official meeting with Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Tuesday afternoon (June 24) at the Chief Adviser’s official residence in Jamuna.

During the meeting, Professor Yunus praised the people of Kosovo for their unwavering commitment to freedom, peace, and national sovereignty, drawing a parallel to Bangladesh’s own “July Uprising” spirit.

Ambassador Plana expressed deep gratitude on behalf of his government and people for Bangladesh’s recognition of Kosovo as an independent and sovereign nation, along with its continued support. Reflecting on Kosovo’s post-conflict recovery in the late 1990s, he acknowledged the important contributions of rural development efforts and recognized Bangladesh as a valuable partner.

“I want to show my respect for your personal commitment,” Plana said. “The Grameen Trust’s initiatives have been a tremendous support for our nation.” He also thanked Bangladeshi peacekeepers for their role in Kosovo’s post-war stabilization.

Both sides discussed ways to enhance bilateral trade and economic cooperation. The Chief Adviser emphasized boosting collaboration in sectors such as ready-made garments, pharmaceuticals, leather and leather goods, jute products, processed foods, and light engineering. He invited Kosovo to increase investment in Bangladesh’s economic zones.

Ambassador Plana highlighted the importance of strengthening business-to-business ties and encouraged greater collaboration between the chambers of commerce and industries of both countries to foster trade and investment.

Stressing the importance of people-to-people ties, the Chief Adviser proposed support for employing more Bangladeshi workers in Kosovo and suggested expanding opportunities for Bangladeshi students in Kosovo’s universities through scholarships, fellowships, and academic grants.
