BNP Leader Blames City Corporation Officials for Orchestrated Attack at Nagar Bhaban; Demands Immediate Arrests
BNP leader and engineer Ishraq Hossain visited Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Tuesday (June 24) at around 5:45 PM to see those injured in the recent attack at the Dhaka South City Corporation’s Nagar Bhaban headquarters.
Speaking to the media after the visit, Ishraq stated that several regional offices around Nagar Bhaban had been inactive for a long time. “We revived these offices and resumed essential public services, which have been running smoothly for the past two days despite many obstacles. Unfortunately, this progress didn’t sit well with our opponents,” he said.
He alleged that earlier in the day, “a group of hired thugs, led by corrupt officials loyal to authoritarian forces, attacked our activists with deadly weapons while chanting slogans in my name.” Ishraq claimed the attackers intended to frame the incident as an internal clash within BNP while simultaneously disrupting public services to create fear.
He identified two alleged masterminds behind the attack — Golam Kibria Rubel, an officer at Nagar Bhaban, and Arifuzzaman Prince, a staff member — accusing them of having enjoyed privileges during past city administrations. “Rubel used to ride in the current Local Government Adviser’s official vehicle and was involved in rampant corruption and tender manipulation. He now collaborates with so-called student movements to retain his influence,” Ishraq claimed.
He demanded the immediate arrest and interrogation of Rubel and Prince, stating, “If law enforcement questions them properly, the extent of collusion with the current Local Government Adviser will be exposed.”
