BNP Joint Secretary General Shahiduddin Chowdhury Annie has called for an immediate and comprehensive operation to recover all illegal weapons across the country, expressing concern that no effective measures have been taken since the looting of arms on the 5th of the month. He criticized the authorities for their inaction, noting that the stolen arms have yet to be retrieved and no specific operation has been initiated to address the issue.
Speaking on Saturday afternoon at a representative meeting of the Jubo Dal in Lakshmipur, where he attended as the chief guest, Annie emphasized the urgent need to ensure national security by removing all unauthorized arms from circulation. He accused the ruling government of failing to take responsibility for such security breaches and warned of the consequences if these weapons remain at large.
Annie went on to denounce Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, claiming that there has yet to be any visible or meaningful accountability in her leadership. He asserted that the people of Bangladesh want to see justice for the Prime Minister first, followed by what he termed as accountability for her family, and justice for incidents of enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, and misgovernance that he attributes to her administration.
He stressed that genuine democratic reform and elections must take place to stabilize the political environment. Without these processes, Annie argued, the foundations of democracy would remain fragile, leaving room for fascist forces to continue exploiting the people.
Addressing recent political developments, Annie stated that there have been attempts in Dhaka, Chattogram, and other regions to reestablish fascism through sudden street processions and political maneuvering. He claimed that the people of Bangladesh have not forgotten the alleged misrule, oppression, torture, killings, and enforced disappearances perpetrated by the Awami League, and warned that such tactics would not be tolerated again on the soil of Bangladesh.
The representative meeting was presided over by Chandraganj Thana Jubo Dal convener Enayet Ullah. The event was co-hosted by Foyez Ahmed, convener of the municipal unit of Jubo Dal, and Jahangir Alam, convener of the Sadar Upazila (East) unit. Special guests included district BNP member secretary Sahab Uddin Sabu and joint convener Advocate Hasibur Rahman, among others.
The gathering focused on organizational issues, political strategy, and the current political climate, with leaders urging unity and readiness among party activists in the face of what they described as an authoritarian crackdown on opposition forces.
