Pakistan has firmly dismissed India’s accusations linking it to the recent deadly attack in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam area, calling the claims baseless and politically driven. On Friday, April 25, the Senate of Pakistan unanimously passed a resolution rejecting the Indian allegations, which blamed Pakistan for involvement in the militant attack that killed 26 people.
According to Pakistani media outlet Dawn, the resolution was tabled by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar. It underscored Pakistan’s firm stance that any attempt to associate the country with terrorism without evidence is unacceptable and will not go unchallenged. The Senate rejected what it termed as “frivolous and unfounded” efforts to link Pakistan with the attack and denounced such narratives as deliberate attempts to distract from internal political agendas in India.
The resolution assured that any Indian aggression—whether in the form of military provocation or acts of “water terrorism”—would be met with a swift and proportional response. Ishaq Dar emphasized that Pakistan remains fully capable and prepared to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity against any threat. He reiterated that Pakistan does not support the killing of innocent civilians, stating such acts are fundamentally against the country’s values and principles.
The move comes a day after Pakistan’s National Security Committee (NSC) issued a statement urging India to refrain from exploiting the Pahalgam incident to further narrow political interests. The NSC warned against what it termed the “blame game,” asserting that such behavior undermines regional peace and stability.
The Senate resolution also criticized India’s recent unilateral announcement to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty, describing the move as illegal and a blatant violation of international agreements. Lawmakers condemned the Indian decision as a hostile act tantamount to declaring war, which threatens the fragile regional balance.
In addition, the resolution called for India to be held accountable for its alleged involvement in various acts of terrorism and targeted assassinations not only in Pakistan but also in other countries. It demanded that the international community bring India under scrutiny for such activities.
Addressing the Senate, Deputy Prime Minister Dar highlighted Pakistan’s strategic deterrent capabilities, noting that the country is a nuclear and missile power. He warned that if India attempts to intimidate Pakistan, it will face a response similar to past instances, signaling a zero-tolerance policy for any hostile maneuvers. He cautioned India to avoid adventurism, warning that such actions would endanger not only bilateral relations but also the broader peace and development of the South Asian region.
The United Nations, responding to the violence in Pahalgam, has called on both India and Pakistan to exercise maximum restraint. The international body has urged both nations to avoid escalating tensions and to engage in dialogue to maintain regional stability.
As tensions simmer, the resolution passed by the Pakistani Senate marks a clear stance from Islamabad that it will not tolerate unfounded accusations and is prepared to safeguard national interests at all costs.
