At least eight people lost their lives, and five others sustained injuries after a sports utility vehicle (SUV) veered off a highway and fell into a 300-meter-deep gorge in Nepal’s Darchula district early Friday morning.
The tragic accident occurred around 4:00 AM local time as the vehicle, carrying 13 passengers, was returning from the Mallikarjun Temple pilgrimage.
District Police spokesperson Chhatra Bahadur Rawat informed that the injured were promptly rescued, and three of them are in critical condition.
This incident marks the fourth major accident in Nepal's mountainous areas within the past eight days, highlighting growing safety concerns in the region’s rugged terrain.
