Professor Muhammad Yunus, Chief Advisor and Nobel Laureate, urged world leaders to build a world free from poverty, unemployment, and carbon emissions, emphasizing the "Three Zeros" vision.
In a video message delivered on Friday at the G20 Social Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, he outlined this transformative approach. His special virtual address opened the summit, followed by a keynote speech from Brazil’s First Lady, Janja Lula.
Bangladesh joined Brazil as a founding member of the G20 Global Alliance Against Poverty and Hunger, marking a significant milestone and a prestigious achievement for the nation.
A Vision for a Just and Sustainable World
Under the theme "Building a Fairer World and a Sustainable Planet," Professor Yunus called for decisive action to create a resilient global future. He commended Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva for establishing the alliance and highlighted Bangladesh’s pioneering role in this groundbreaking initiative.
The G20 alliance, spearheaded under Brazil’s presidency, aims to unify global efforts to combat hunger and poverty. Bangladesh was invited to contribute to three key pillars of this year’s G20 discussions: women’s empowerment, climate sustainability, and the fight against poverty and hunger.
Bangladesh’s Commitment to Transformation
Professor Yunus showcased Bangladesh's dedication to community development, entrepreneurship, and sustainable growth. He emphasized that no nation should shy away from its responsibilities, calling for the restoration of trust in systems and institutions through sustainable solutions.
Highlighting the importance of adopting a mindset focused on simplicity and low consumption, Professor Yunus urged global leaders to channel intellectual, financial, and youth power toward achieving the "Three Zeros" vision.
Collaboration for a Better Future
Concluding his speech, Professor Yunus invited President Lula to visit Bangladesh and contribute to collaborative transformative solutions for a world free from poverty and hunger.
Bangladesh’s delegation to the summit included Ambassador to Brazil Sadia Faizunnesa and Counselor Jasim Uddin, who represented the country at this pivotal global event.
Global Participation at G20 Social Summit
The G20 Social Summit saw over 300 participants, including ministers, senior officials, and prominent figures worldwide. The Global Alliance now boasts 30 founding members, comprising UN member states, UN agencies, and international organizations, working together to address global challenges.
