Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh, H.E. Yao Wen, paid a courtesy visit to Chief Justice Dr. Syed Refaat Ahmed at the Chief Justice's office in the Supreme Court on Monday morning. The ambassador was accompanied by a three-member delegation from the Chinese Embassy during the meeting.

The Chief Justice, during the discussion, reiterated that Bangladesh’s judiciary, in the aftermath of the July-August uprisings, remains committed to ensuring the highest protection of human rights. According to a press release issued by the Supreme Court administration, the Chinese ambassador lauded the Chief Justice's recent initiatives aimed at institutional independence for the judiciary. He expressed optimism that the Chief Justice's strong leadership would play a vital role in upholding justice and governance in the country.

The ambassador also assured that China stands ready to offer full support in developing a strong judicial system in Bangladesh. In particular, he highlighted his interest in fostering mutual interaction between the two nations' legal systems. This could include specialized training programs involving judges from both countries to enhance their expertise and exchange knowledge.

During the meeting, the ambassador informed the Chief Justice about China’s contributions to Bangladesh in recent months. This includes the provision of medical supplies for treating those injured during the uprisings in July and August, as well as assistance in addressing the aftermath of the sudden floods that struck various regions of the country.

The Chief Justice, in response, reaffirmed his commitment to upholding the rule of law in post-uprising Bangladesh and assured full cooperation from the Supreme Court in strengthening bilateral judicial relations. He emphasized the judiciary’s resolve to protect human rights to the highest degree and acknowledged the spontaneous participation of the public during the recent uprisings as a testament to the nation's pursuit of justice and governance.
