BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir advised caution in appointing individuals to advisory roles, ensuring that no controversial figure is given such responsibility. He shared his views today, Tuesday (November 12), while speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of the Shaheed Zia Memorial Tournament in Barabari, Lalmonirhat.

Mirza Fakhrul remarked that the current government took charge amid a critical period marked by student-led protests, calling for an interim government to be given a reasonable timeframe to complete essential reforms. He emphasized the need for patience and encouraged addressing issues through dialogue rather than solely through political avenues. “We, too, must show tolerance so that the nation’s reforms can be completed in an orderly and disciplined manner,” he added.

He went on to criticize the previous "fascist Awami League government" for allegedly driving every sector toward ruin through corruption and irregularities. "Reform cannot happen overnight," he stated, emphasizing that with reasonable time, full reform can be achieved. Fakhrul also accused the former Awami League government of consistently plotting against the BNP, engaging in repression, and filing false cases against nearly 6 million people. He alleged that approximately 700 people were forcibly disappeared, with thousands more being targeted, in an attempt to establish a fascist, one-party rule.

Mirza Fakhrul also pointed to the worsening control over the markets, urging the government to take action to regulate prices. He maintained that a truly elected government would resolve existing problems and that elections and reform are essential for lasting solutions.

Reflecting on recent historical events, he stated, “By the grace of Allah, the dominance of authoritarian forces was defeated on August 5, 2024, through a second wave of student and citizen-led protests.” He called for a pledge to resist any form of authoritarianism, stressing that a powerful movement may be needed to protect people’s rights and ensure democracy.
