Donald Trump has taken the oath of office as the 47th President of the United States, marking a historic and dramatic return to the White House. After losing his reelection bid four years ago and leaving the presidency reluctantly, Trump has now reclaimed the nation's highest office with overwhelming public support.

The day’s events began with an extraordinary moment of tradition and symbolism. Outgoing President Joe Biden welcomed Trump and his wife Melania to the White House for a customary tea session. Biden, joined by First Lady Jill Biden, greeted Trump at the North Portico with the words “Welcome home.” Both leaders avoided answering questions from reporters who called out to them as they entered the residence.

After their brief meeting, Biden and Trump departed the White House together in the presidential limousine en route to the Capitol for the inauguration ceremony. This gesture of shared travel between the outgoing and incoming presidents reflects a tradition that dates back to 1837, when Martin Van Buren and Andrew Jackson established the precedent. However, this tradition had been broken in 2021 when Trump did not host Biden for tea before leaving the White House.

Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance were sworn in at a ceremony held in the Rotunda of the Capitol, a rare indoor venue chosen due to extreme winter weather conditions. This marked the first time in four decades that the swearing-in ceremony, traditionally held on the Capitol’s West Steps, was relocated indoors.

During the ceremony, President Biden bid farewell to the White House, marking the conclusion of his single term in office. When asked earlier by reporters how he felt on his last day as President, Biden responded simply, “Good.” His departure from the executive mansion signaled the end of a significant chapter in U.S. political history, as Trump’s return symbolized a shift in the nation’s direction.

Trump’s comeback has been fueled by widespread public support and a renewed mandate to implement his ambitious agenda. His inaugural address is expected to outline key priorities for his second term, including sweeping changes to immigration, energy policies, and America’s global role. As he begins this new chapter, Trump is poised to lead with a bold vision aimed at reshaping the country’s future.

The inauguration festivities represent not only a change in leadership but also the continuation of America’s democratic traditions amidst shifting political landscapes.
