The only operational hospital in northern Gaza, Kamal Adwan Hospital, has ceased functioning following an aggressive assault by Israeli forces. On Friday, the hospital suffered extensive damage when Israeli troops launched an attack, burning critical sections of the facility and leaving it incapacitated. Following the strike, numerous hospital staff members were detained by Israeli forces.

In a statement shared on social media platform X, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported that the attack forced the shutdown of the last major healthcare facility in northern Gaza. Initial reports suggest severe destruction to critical departments of the hospital, raising concerns over the state of healthcare in the region.

WHO also expressed grave concern for the safety of 60 healthcare workers and 25 patients who were present in the hospital at the time of the assault. Patients in moderate to critical condition were transferred to the nearby Indonesian hospital, which is itself non-operational. The organization voiced alarm over the deteriorating safety of both medical staff and patients in the conflict zone.

The Ministry of Health in Gaza confirmed that Kamal Adwan Hospital’s director, Husam Abu Safiya, along with dozens of hospital employees, was detained and taken to an interrogation center by Israeli forces. Prior to the attack, the Israeli military had alleged that the hospital was being used as a Hamas stronghold. These claims were firmly denied by Hamas, which described the hospital's destruction as a “blatant war crime.” In a statement shared via the messaging app Telegram, Hamas accused Israel of committing war crimes in Gaza with the support of the United States and certain Western nations, claiming these countries are complicit in the ongoing atrocities.

The assault on the hospital has drawn widespread international condemnation. Saudi Arabia and Jordan have both strongly criticized the attack, labeling it a violation of international law. The foreign ministries of both nations issued statements denouncing the incident, emphasizing that such actions undermine humanitarian principles and legal norms.

The situation continues to escalate as humanitarian organizations and international bodies call for urgent measures to protect civilians and medical facilities amid the intensifying conflict.
