On the 89th birth anniversary of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman, thousands of leaders and workers from the Nationalist Workers Party paid tribute to him at his mausoleum in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.
At around 11:30 AM on Sunday, January 19, the tribute was led by Advocate Shamsul Rahman Shimul Biswas, special assistant to the BNP Chairperson and a prominent labour leader, who laid a wreath at Ziaur Rahman’s mausoleum. Following the wreath-laying, the group offered Fateha and held a special prayer for the late president.
Earlier, at 11 AM, a similar tribute was paid by BNP General Secretary Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and other central party leaders, who laid their floral tributes and recited Fateha, offering prayers for Ziaur Rahman’s soul.
During this tribute, a number of workers from the Nationalist Workers Party, led by Shamsul Rahman Shimul Biswas, were present. These included Sumon Bhuiyan, convenor of the Dhaka South Workers Party, Badarul Alam Shobuj, member secretary, and several joint convenors from the Dhaka North Workers Party, such as Lion Farid Ahmed, Shah Alam Mollah, Sirajul Islam Khan, Anwar Hossain Khan, and Zakir Hossain, among others.
On this occasion, thousands of party workers marched towards Ziaur Rahman’s mausoleum, waving banners and festoons. They chanted slogans such as "Zia, the Proclaimer of Independence," "One Zia is gone, but thousands live in our hearts," and "From Teknaf to Tetulia, Zia is never forgotten." The mausoleum was filled with energy and dedication, with party leaders and workers showing their unwavering respect for the late leader.
The tribute was organized by different factions of BNP and its associated organizations, each presenting their flowers separately at the mausoleum, ensuring that Ziaur Rahman’s legacy was honored by various arms of the party.
