The Saudi government has issued new guidelines regarding the drinking of Zamzam water, which is sourced from the holy well located in the Masjid al-Haram in Mecca and Masjid al-Nabawi in Medina. According to the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, pilgrims must maintain a sense of peace and tranquility when drinking this sacred water, and they should ask for Allah's pleasure during the process.

The Ministry’s new directives emphasize several important etiquettes for consuming Zamzam water. Pilgrims are advised to remember the name of Allah while drinking the water, ensure they drink it with their right hand, and maintain cleanliness during the process. It is also advised that care should be taken to prevent any spillage of the water while drinking. Furthermore, pilgrims are requested not to perform ablution (wudu) directly from the Zamzam water taps.

In addition to these instructions, the Ministry has called for pilgrims to avoid crowding or pushing when drinking the water. They are encouraged to place used cups in designated areas and maintain proper decorum in line with the sacredness of the sites. The Ministry also reminded that pilgrims should avoid causing any disturbances and continue to show courtesy in their behavior around the Zamzam water stations.

Each year, thousands of pilgrims visit Mecca to perform Umrah, and after completing their rituals, many travel to Medina to visit the Prophet’s Mosque. A popular tradition among the pilgrims is to bring back small amounts of Zamzam water to their home countries after their pilgrimage, as it is highly revered. However, the sale of Zamzam water is strictly prohibited worldwide.

The Zamzam water is not only significant for its spiritual benefits but also for its association with the sacred pilgrimage of Hajj and Umrah. Pilgrims consider drinking it a special blessing, and its sanctity is closely tied to the religious importance of the holy mosques in Mecca and Medina. The water is believed to have healing properties and has been a part of Islamic tradition for centuries, making it an essential part of the religious experience for Muslims who visit Saudi Arabia for pilgrimage.

The new instructions from the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah are part of ongoing efforts to maintain the dignity and sanctity of the sacred spaces, as well as to ensure the safety and well-being of pilgrims who visit from all over the world. The guidelines also highlight the importance of respect for the religious practices and the preservation of cleanliness and orderliness during the pilgrimage.
