Mumbai, January 17 — Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan was reportedly stabbed at his Mumbai residence, prompting sharp criticism from former Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal against the BJP-led central government. In a speech on Thursday, Kejriwal expressed his outrage over the incident, raising serious concerns about safety under the current administration.

Citing the involvement of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, who is currently incarcerated in Gujarat’s Sabarmati Jail, Kejriwal claimed that the criminal operates with impunity, raising suspicions that he is being protected. Bishnoi’s gang has previously been accused of orchestrating attacks, including a threat to Salman Khan and the murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique.

The AAP chief questioned how such a prominent actor, living in a supposedly secure environment, could be attacked in his own home. He called it a disturbing trend, drawing attention to the state and central governments’ failure to ensure the safety of even high-profile individuals. Kejriwal further added that if celebrities are not safe, the security of ordinary citizens is gravely at risk. He criticized the BJP’s "double-engine" governance, alleging it fails to deliver both good administration and public security.

Calling on the government to prioritize public safety over political agendas, Kejriwal urged an immediate end to "dirty politics" and demanded measures to protect citizens. The incident, he stated, highlights the deteriorating law and order situation in the country.

On Wednesday, Kejriwal also tweeted his shock over the attack on Saif Ali Khan, expressing disbelief and concern.

Meanwhile, Mumbai police have detained a suspect in connection with the stabbing incident. However, authorities have not confirmed whether the individual is the same person seen in CCTV footage from the scene.

According to reports, the suspect was taken into custody based on technical evidence and field-level intelligence. A video released on Friday morning showed the individual being escorted to Bandra police station. Appearing disheveled, the suspect’s identity and background remain undisclosed. As of the time of reporting, police have not officially arrested him but continue to investigate the case under charges of trespassing and assault.

The attack has sent shockwaves through the film industry and beyond, raising critical questions about security measures in urban areas and the effectiveness of governance in addressing the growing threat of crime.
