The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has approved two additional cases against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy for alleged irregularities in the allocation of plots in the Purbachal housing project. The cases were approved following an initial inquiry that revealed evidence of wrongdoing. Along with Sheikh Hasina and Sajeeb Wazed Joy, six other former government officials have been named as accused in the cases.

According to the ACC, while serving as Prime Minister and holding the highest public office, Sheikh Hasina is accused of misusing her power to illegally acquire a plot in the Purbachal residential project’s diplomatic area, Sector 27, Plot No. 009. Despite not being entitled to such compensation, she allegedly took possession of the plot under her name. Additionally, the case accuses Sheikh Hasina of securing separate plots for her children, her sister, and her sister’s children, through illegal means and fraudulent activities, including accepting and offering undue rewards, committing criminal breach of trust, and engaging in illegal favoritism.

The charges against them are based on the provisions of the Penal Code, 1860, sections 161/409/420/109, as well as section 5(2) of the Anti-Corruption Act, 1947, which criminalizes corruption and abuse of power.
