The Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Tripura, India, resumed its visa and consular services on Wednesday. According to sources from the Assistant High Commission, around 120 visa applications were submitted on the first day of operations.
The visa services had been suspended since December 2 last year after an attack on the Assistant High Commission office by members of a Hindutva organization.
A woman who came to apply for a visa on the first day expressed her relief, stating that her paternal home is in Bangladesh, but she had been unable to visit due to the visa office’s closure. With the resumption of services, she now hopes to travel back to her homeland.
Another young woman shared that her relatives live in Bangladesh, and she had long wished to visit them. She had previously applied for a visa but was unsuccessful due to some errors in her application. After months of suspension, she was eager to submit her application on the first day of reopening.
Visa applications will be accepted on working days from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM (Indian time), while passports with issued visas will be returned between 3:30 PM and 5:30 PM.
However, embassy sources have not yet confirmed how long it will take to process and issue the visas.
